Music videos
This is a summary of what we have learnt about music videos so far.
music video: a short film that integrates a song with imagery, and produced for promotional or artistic purposes.
The main conventions of mainstream music videos:
- set in urban areas
- feature 'real' people facing adversity and hardship
- narrative with elements of perfomance
- set as a representation of society at the time
- diverse represenntations
- elements of struggle and hardship
- set in urban area

The main conventions of alternative music videos :
- artist doesn't appear
- conceptual narrative
- set in subrban areas
- limited representations/ lack of diversity

some music videos may pay homage to another media text this is called intertextuality, some examples include:
Cohen's moral panic:
